Using RSS: CPD is all around!

I’ve been messing about trying to gather up some useful blog feeds that I have either  been reading for a while  or have come across recently and have learned loads of things about using RSS and how useful it can be. With the help of my colleague Con,  I’ve managed to stitch together some blogfeeds for languages, primary languages and CPD using  feedstitch. These spliced feeds go out into relevant  online communities where they can all be used, read, and engaged with, as the comment function on blogs invites debate, interaction and development of professional thinking- all of which consitute worthwhile CPD opportunities within themselves.

It strikes me that this is useful in many ways: as well as all the CPD it offers, it also seems to offer  a refinement of crowdsourcing: filtering opinions to ones you think are worth considering. This might not always be seen as a positive, but alternatives are available ( twitter, facebook, pub, staffroom) if you do want a genuinely open discussion on something. 

 It would be great if HE could enter the debate on these terms , and let us know what was happening in education research, how thinking is evolving and what their priorites are. I’m lucky – I can access journals as a Master’s student, but there is a richness there that is being denied to the majority of the profession at whom it is directed. Maybe it’s just not enough of a priority for most educators to get exercised about, but even so, there is still a debate to be had about research, relevance (for both sides ), teaching,  funding (especially public), transparency and sharing of learning.  You will notice that quite a few of these feeds come from some good folks working in HE – I just wish there were more. I wouldn’t have known any of this stuff below if these people weren’t prepared to share openly. And freely.
